Dental Health

Establishing and maintaining healthy mouths is a significant commitment as part of our practice philosophy. With a preventive approach to all forms of oral problems, we promote and encourage regular hygiene and examination appointments as being integral to our commitment.

A thorough cleaning of the teeth to remove plaque, calculus (hardened plaque or ‘tartar’) and surface staining is undertaken during a hygiene appointment by Dr. Sacco. She will also check the mouth for signs of oral cancer, and diseases of the gums, such as gingivitis or periodontitis.

Dr. Sacco will also show you the best and most effective way to clean your teeth, and may offer advice on various dental products to make your task easier. Where warranted, she may also recommend some lifestyle and/or diet changes for the maintenance of good oral health.

A periodic examination usually accompanies a hygiene appointment at regular 6-monthly recall visits. A thorough check-up of the teeth and dental restorations are undertaken, aiming to identify early problems before they become major issues. Occasionally, radiographs (x-rays) may be required as part of this process.

Just because a problem may be detected does not always mean that dental treatment is necessary. There may be a simple solution, like using professionally recommended products to control areas that are at greater risk or showing signs of early decay. Sometimes just a change in daily cleaning procedures is all that is required.
